Domain Management

Lightpost offers to keep up with your domain name registrar renewals and configuration.

Domain management with Lightpost means peace of mind. You maintain ownership, while we handle the renewals, records, and technical details. Your congregation stays online and connected—without the risk of losing your digital identity.

Managing Your Domain with Lightpost

Lightpost can take care of your domain name — ensuring it stays current, is renewed on time, and remains properly configured. We serve as a single, reliable point of contact for all domain-related questions or issues, so you never have to worry about losing access or dealing with confusing registrar systems.

How to Enable Domain Management

To transfer your domain to our registrar for managed services through Lightpost, we just need two things done with your current registrar:

  1. Unlock the domain at your current registrar (to allow for transfer to another registrar)

    1. Most registrars have a "lock" enabled to prevent domains from being automatically transferred.

  2. Gather and send the auth code to Lightpost support

    1. This is sometimes called an "EPP code" with some registrars.

    2. You will need to locate this with your current registrar. Some registrars require opening a support ticket to access this code.

We'll handle the rest after that! Please note:

  • Domain name transfers can take 5+ business days.

  • We must identify any other current hosted services using your domain name to ensure we keep those services running (such as email, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, etc)

  • Lightpost will be your point of contact for any help you need with domain name configurations.

Why Domain Management Matters

Your domain name (like churchofchrist.org) is one of your congregation’s most important digital assets. It connects people to your website, email, livestreams, giving platform, and other online tools. Yet it’s surprisingly easy for domains to lapse or become misconfigured — often without warning.

Some of the most common reasons congregations lose control of their domain include:

  • Lost login credentials – Access to registrar accounts can be misplaced over time.

  • Ownership confusion – Domains are sometimes registered under an individual’s name instead of the congregation’s.

  • Leadership changes – When responsibilities shift, important renewal details can be forgotten.

  • Passing of a caretaker – A domain may become inaccessible if it was registered under the name of someone who has passed away.

  • Membership or leadership disputes – Lack of clear ownership records can create complications.

  • Configuration updates – Modern services often require DNS updates or new verification records to function correctly.

With Lightpost domain management - your congregation's domain name belongs to the eldership/members of the congregation and are managed on your behalf.

How Lightpost Domain Management Helps

With Lightpost managing your domain, your congregation’s web presence stays secure and stable. Here’s how we help:

  • Automatic renewals: We ensure your domain never expires due to missed payments or forgotten logins.

  • Proper ownership: Your domain remains the property of your congregation (eldership/members), not Lightpost or any individual.

  • Centralized support: If anything ever changes—new website, new email provider, new pastor—we’ll handle DNS or registrar updates for you.

  • Protection from loss or disputes: We document and preserve ownership details to prevent future confusion.

  • Single point of contact: Instead of tracking which service holds which record, you simply contact Lightpost.
